Our Mission

HFJ has a two-fold mission:

HFJ seeks to increase awareness about the historic role the judicial branch has played in impacting Latino community, especially in the realms of civil rights, education, immigration, labor law and affirmative action.
HFJ is dedicated to promoting the nomination and confirmation of diverse, qualified judicial nominees who understand our community, how our community is impacted by judicial decisions, and who will support equal justice for all.

Hispanics for a Fair Judiciary calls on Senators to put politics aside, support Judge Adalberto Jose Jordan

Hispanics for a Fair Judiciary today urged members of the U.S. Senate to support the nomination of Adalberto Jose Jordan to be United States Circuit Judge for the 11th Circuit. Judge Jordan has bipartisan support and is exceptionally qualified, yet his nomination faces a cloture vote on Monday afternoon to overcome a filibuster. A group of Senators have pledged to block all Presidential nominees, regardless of the qualifications or the urgent need to fill the vacancies.

President Barack Obama is moving at a historic pace to try to diversify the nation's federal judiciary: Nearly three of every four people he has gotten confirmed to the federal bench are women or minorities. He is the first president who hasn't selected a majority of white males for lifetime judgeships.

Sen. Leahy Statement on Wal-Mart V. Dukes

The Supreme Court today issued an opinion in Wal-Mart v. Dukes, a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of 1.5 million female Wal-Mart employees. At issue in the case was whether the corporation employed a practice of pay and promotion discrimination against female employees.
